This stunning listed building is a well-refurbished archetype of 1930s movie glamour. The colonnaded frontage with curved movie marquee opens into a decadent circular atrium, with golden queue ropes leading to six 120- to 230-seater screens, all with generous legroom and quality projection. The food and beverage offer is varied, with a café, a large public bar in the upper foyer, and a more luxurious members’ bar, all with original art-deco features. As with all Picturehouses, the programme blends mainstream, world cinema and accessible arthouse, the staff actually like talking about the films they’re screening, and the membership package is worthwhile if you’re local.
