About Genesis Cinema Tower Hamlets

Contact & About

Renovated from a 19th-century music hall which played host to Charlie Chaplin and Laurel & Hardy, this opened as a cinema in 1912. Anecdotes abound of premieres attended by royalty, movie stars and the Kray Twins. The main 550-seater boasts original architectural features, with immersive ambient lights that adjust in real time to the onscreen mood. Two 150-seaters and a pair of 40-seater luxe studios with sofas, armchairs and blankets complete the venue’s Best UK Cinema Award-winning offer of popular new releases, arthouse, cult classics and live streams. The foyer café is a hipster affair of bare brick and movie posters, with coffee and cro-doughs from the local micro-roastery and family bakeries. Movie nights are refreshed in the upstairs cocktail bar, with accompanying kitchen serving gourmet pies and mash.
