I spy Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton, in the trailer for All The Old Knives

Thandiwe Newton can’t be the mole in this new spy thriller, right?

She stars opposite Chris Pine as a pair of former lovers and CIA colleagues, in Prime Video exclusive All The Old Knives. He’s tasked with uncovering the mole working within his organisation, and the path leads him back to Newton, despite the romance they’ve shared together.

It just seems tooo obvious that she’s the traitor, for all that juicy dramatic potential. So we’ll have to tune in from April 8 to watch All The Old Knives, when it begins streaming on Prime Video worldwide: hopefully we’ll be surprised.

It’s based on the novel of the same name by Olen Steinhauer, who also wrote the feature’s screenplay. All The Old Knives also stars Laurence Fishburne and Jonathon Pryce as Pine’s tense superiors, but the real draw here is the aching romantic plot between our two leads.

At a dinner in the picturesque coastal town Carmel-by-the-Sea, Newton is at first disappointed to realise that Pine means business: “So this is an interview. I thought you were here to see if we still had that old spark.” Judging from the trailer’s most sexy scenes, that spark is definitely still there.

The movie’s plot description claims that “it becomes clear one of them is not going to survive the meal”, so we should be getting plenty of flashbacks to that fateful incident that tore the couple apart: a plane hijacking with no survivors.

That kind of thing normally spoils the mood on a nice date/reunion, but if anyone can get to the bottom of it, it’s Pine: shown wearing some cute maritime-y outfits in the trailer above. Settle in with a nice bottle of wine and your own embattled, suspicious significant other to watch All The Old Knives, when it hits streaming screens soon.
