About Castle Cinema Hackney

Contact & About

First opened in 1913, the Castle Electric Theatre (later Cinema) became a glass factory, bingo club, snooker joint and posh burger bar before it fell out of use. When a local couple spied promise in the upstairs space, they launched a Kickstarter campaign to revive the cinema, which now boasts an impressively appointed 80-armchair auditorium for screen one and a boutique second screen seating 27. With an art-deco bar on hand, the Castle’s well-fortified focus falls on style, comfort and smart programming, offering quality mainstream films, crossover arthouse films, family hits, classics and more. Special events include the splendid Pitchblack Playback, a chance to listen undistracted to classic LPs from Talk Talk, Massive Attack and others in the dark.
