Fire of Love (November 11)

There was a third, tempestuous party in the marriage of Katie and Maurice Krafft: the volatile volcanoes the pair were obsessed with studying, resulting in some of the most beautiful and explosive nature images ever recorded. This heartbreaking and absorbing feature documentary tells their love story in gloriously grainy film. It got a big tick of approval from us here at Flicks, with Liam Maguren describing its appeal here in his review: “Some of the more obscure footage the Kraffts shot will forever be unexplained, but most of their ventures, like Maurice’s casual canoe through an acid lake, are gasp-worthy and speak directly to who they were—as scientists and as people.”

Disenchanted (November 18)

Enchanted made fun of Disney’s corniest fairy tale tropes, while secretly feeding us a wholesome, music-filled reinforcement of them. Now, Amy Adams’ irrepressible Princess Giselle is keen to return to the animated world she first knew, with dire unhappy-ever-after consequences. It looks like a magic wand and a poorly-chosen wish will have her transforming her suburban town into a Disney-fied cartoon…and she’s taking on the qualities of the archetypal evil stepmother…

Willow: Season 1 (November 30)

Back in 1988, George Lucas introduced us to the courageous hero Willow, playing by Warwick Davis as a force of goodness and optimism up against wondrous practical effects beasties and baddies. While he sadly won’t be joined by Val Kilmer’s Madmartigan, the brave Nelwyn sorceror is back for his own fantasy series. Grey hairs aside, he’s obviously hung onto his youthful sense of adventure for a new episodic yarn.
