These focus on the days leading up to Diana’s death in 1997, and while the car crash itself is reportedly not depicted, the events leading up to it, and its news cycle-dominating aftermath will be explored in detail. Plus—Diana’s ghost! [Not a joke].
Fargo
Crime anthology series Fargo is back with a new cast, setting, and renewed sense of Coen-y comedy. Minnesota and North Dakota of 2019 provide the backdrop for this fresh tale of a seemingly typical Midwestern housewife (Juno Temple), who proves resourceful when a shady past threatens to catch up with her. Jon Hamm’s the sheriff on her tail, while the rest of this season’s superb cast includes the likes of Jennifer Jason Leigh, Joe Keery, and Dave Foley.

The unexpected arrival of strangers (Mahershala Ali and Myha’la) only adds to the uncertainty—as does their news of a blackout that’s crippled the region…
Maestro
The official trailer for Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein biopic is here ahead of its December release on Netflix, offering more of a look at the complex love story at the centre of his film (and yes, the much-ballyhooed prosthetic nose Cooper has donned to play the great composer).

Doctor Who: 60th Anniversary Specials
David Tennant makes a brief return as The Doctor in three specials, after Jodie Whittaker’s departure from the role. In a complicated development, he’s not exactly repeating his role as The Tenth Doctor, but the Fourteenth, around for just three specials before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth. Have we cleared that up? Great!
Lisa Frankenstein
The first Diablo Cody screenplay to hit the big screen since 2018’s Tully sees Kathryn Newton (Freaky, Big Little Lies) and Cole Sprouse (Riverdale) lead a high school zombie comedy romance. Or something like that. Sprouse plays Newton’s deceased crush, brought back to life(-ish) and in need of acquiring some fresh body parts to be good as new…
Occupied City
British director Steve McQueen also calls Amsterdam home, and here he turns his camera on two terrifying periods of the city’s life, in a documentary recounting Nazi occupation and the more recent era of pandemic and protest. His film is informed by Atlas of an Occupied City, Amsterdam 1940-1945, a book by Bianca Stigter (and McQueen’s wife), a compendium of Amsterdam addresses which were the sites of Nazi atrocities.
Finestkind
Legend director Brian Helgeland takes on another familial crime tale, with Jenna Ortega and two brothers (played by Ben Foster and Toby Wallace) getting themselves caught up in a drug smuggling scheme. And, as you can see from the trailer embed above, a concerned-looking Tommy Lee Jones is along for the ride as well. Scheduled to arrive on Paramount+ in December, there’s no word yet of any cinema screenings… Watch this space.
