Incisive documentary-maker Alex Gibney (We Steal Secrets and Enron) brings revelations about Scientology to the big screen, adapting Lawrence Wright's non-fiction page-turner of the same name.
Delving into the lives of founder L. Ron Hubbard and current leader David Miscavige, Wright's book also details the organisation's relationship with Hollywood stars like Tom Cruise and John Travolta - a topic said to be at the core of Gibney's film. HBO are rumoured to have 160 lawyers vetting the film, in anticipation of a torrent of lawsuits heading their way.
