Bill Murray first blessed cinema screens in a lead role in Ivan Reitman's summer camp comedy. He plays Tripper, the immature head counselor at budget Camp Northstar. On camp, he befriends isolated loner Rudy (Chris Makepeace). As the camp rallies to defeat rival Camp Mohawk in the annual Olympiad competition, Rudy plays matchmaker between Tripper and Roxanne, a female counselor at Northstar.
Meatballs would be followed by three rubbish sequels - none involving Reitman or Murray.
