French roadtrip comedy-drama starring screen icon Catherine Deneuve as Bettie who, in her early 60s, suddenly ups sticks and leaves her old life behind... Nominated for the Golden Berlin Bear at Berlin 2013.
Bettie who, in her early 60s, is jilted by her lover and left alone to deal with the financial problems facing her family's restaurant. Having run out of cigarettes, she climbs into her car and drives off - leaving her customers and employees. But the short trip turns into a long journey, not like she had planned. As she leaves her old life behind there are chance meetings, an ex-Miss France gala, renewed ties with her estranged daughter, the realisation she has a grandson, and at the end of the road, maybe even love.

"If the general shapelessness of Emanuelle Bercot’s On My Way is fairly easy to accommodate, it’s because the admittedly stale material rests squarely on the shoulders of French icon Catherine Deneuve. At 70, she’s a delight here as a beleaguered former beauty queen, a tailor-made role which she inhabits with ease and a faded effervescence that is affecting in the way it permeates every frame of this movie. Like Sebastián Lelio’s not dissimilar, but superior Gloria, On My Way occupies the character space of middle aged women wrestling with the pitiless spectre of mortality, but re-awakening to discover purpose and independence whilst attempting to hang together strained family ties."
