The Great Museum

Vienna’s Museum of Art History – or, as an Austrian would put it, das Kunsthistorisches Museum – one of Europe’s most venerable art institutions, is examined in this documentary. Shot over the course of a year in which sections of the building were closed for restoration, director Johannes Holzhausen observes its grandest spaces to its small offices, basements, nooks and crannies, introducing protagonists sharing their specialised fields of work.
