China’s extreme rural poverty finds three disturbingly young faces in this Wang Bing documentary about sisters aged ten, six and four who fend for themselves in a remote hillside village. Filthy, under-nourished and labouring daily to survive, sisters Yingying, Zhenzhen and Fenfen have been forced into premature adulthood by apparently absent parents. With no family stepping up to take them in, nor a social welfare safety net, the trio have no option but to provide for themselves.
