How to watch The Idol in the UK

It’s shaping up to be one of the most controversial TV series ever, and you can find out what all the fuss is about when The Idol hits NOW on June 5.

Created by Euphoria’s Sam Levinson, pop star Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, and Reza Fahim, The Idol stars Lily-Rose Depp as Jocelyn, a pop star in crisis following the death of her mother, who resolves to become the exist pop star in America. At this point her life intersects with the mysterious and red-flag-draped club owner Tedros Tedros (Tesfaye), a self-help guru, cult leader, and all-around shady type who quickly seduces her and becomes her lover/mentor/Svengali.

From there we embark on a lurid tour of the fame game, with all its attendant sex, drugs, manipulation, and… well, not so much “boundary pushing” as “boundary destroying”.

The Idol comes at an…interesting time in pop culture, in the wake of the #MeToo movement and at a time when the debate over sexual content on screen is at a fever pitch. If Levinson and Tesfaye wanted to court controversy, then mission accomplished. As to whether the show itself is any good? Well, there’s only one way to find out.
