UK trailer and release date for Only Murders in the Building season 3

Here’s some exciting news: the Only Murders in the Building gang is back, and they’re bringing Meryl Streep with them. Only Murders in the Building season 3 hits Disney+ on August 8.

Yeah, we don’t believe in burying the lede around these parts: Oscar-winning acting powerhouse Meryl Streep is joining the terrific triumvirate of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez for a third tale of murder and mirth, this time set in the high-strung world of New York theatre.

For those who haven’t tasted the arch delights of Only Murders in the Building, imagine a live action New Yorker cartoon and you’re pretty much on the money. Martin, Short, and Gomez play faded actor Charles-Haden Savage, struggling theatre director Oliver Putnam, and artist Mabel Mora, respectively, who came together to solve a murder in the apartment building they share—and to podcast about it, because of course. It’s very droll, in that particular smart/silly manner that Short and Martin have been honing for decades.

While season 2 saw the three as suspects in another murder, this next batch of 10 episodes adds some back stage drama when the leading man of Oliver’s new play, Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd), turns up dead, and suspicion falls on a range of possible malfeasants, including a rather talent-challenged actor from the play’s ensemble. That’s Streep.

Meryl Streep playing a bad actor. That’s range, baby.

Also along this season are Matthew Broderick and Emily in Paris’ Ashley Park in as-yet-undisclosed roles. Sadly, Nathan Lane and Cara Delevingne are out this season, but we guess you can’t have it all.

So far, Only Murders in the Building as proved to be premium comfort viewing, the kind of gently funny, self-effacing series that feels like a warm blanket after a tough day. Which means we’ll be cueing this up as soon as it drops—it’s been a rough year.
