24 year-old Kara Zor-El, who was taken in by the Danvers family after being sent away from Krypton, must learn to embrace her powers after previously hiding them. The Danvers teach her to be careful with her powers, until she has to reveal them during an unexpected disaster, setting her on her journey of heroism.

Season 2 finds Kara teaming up with her cousin Superman. At the same time, Lena Luthor rethinks her family loyalties.

In the third season, Kara is struggling with the loss of Mon-El, after he is forced to depart Earth. Kara chooses to focus on her Supergirl alter ego and must face a strange new threat against National City. Meanwhile, Alex and Kara unknowingly befriend a Kryptonian survivor.

Kara goes back to her reporting job at CatCo while still working with the DEO, attempting to prove that she can both be a superhero and have a normal life. Meanwhile, an attempt on President Marsdin's life exposes her as an alien, causing chaos in National City.

Kara is surprised to find that CatCo has a new owner who has brought in a star reporter. New couples emerge and explore their budding relationships while J'onn J'onzz receives an unexpected visitor.
