Howie as he travels to Scottish island Summerisle to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. While encountering a wall of silence amongst the town's odd inhabitants - including the beautiful, sexually liberated daughter of the innkeeper - Howie discovers a society steeped in secrets and strange, pagan rituals.
