The Fog of War

Documentarian Errol Morris won an Academy Award for this profile of Robert McNamara, the former U.S. Secretary of Defense under JFK and LBJ, reflecting at 85 on his life, career, and the state of modern warfare.

Interviews, archival news footage, and recordings of cabinet conversations illustrate McNamara's life as a WWII soldier, Harvard lecturer, Ford Motor Company executive, and the longest-serving Secretary of Defense in U.S. history in a period that included the Cold War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Vietnam War. Golden Globe-winner and long-time collaborator of Morris, Philip Glass, provides the score.

The Fog of War was selected by the Library of Congress in 2019 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
