A week after its release, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice has dipped below the 30% mark on movie review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. Currently standing with a 29% rating, the film, which sees Henry Cavill’s Superman fight Ben Affleck’s Batman, has proven divisive among film critics worldwide.
However, with an opening week Box Office intake of over half a billion USD, as well as a flurry of well-worded and thoroughly-argued retorts by passionate fans on public video upload website The You Tube, 71% of film critics who negatively reviewed the film have learned that their opinion was wrong and have done the honourable thing by resigning from their careers.
Film Suplex‘s Barry Lotchet spoke to Flicks about the incident: “At the time, I genuinely believed that Batman vs. Superman was too heavily flawed to recommend to film-goers, which I argued in my 1240 word review. However, after realising that not everyone disliked the film, I discovered how wrong my subjective viewpoint was.” Lotchet, a widower with three kids, is currently available for work.
Carla Manning from CineMasticate added some insight to the global critical career hara-kiri in her official public apology: “There is a time, I believe, where we will all fluently understand one another and respectfully acknowledge our differences in judgements and perspectives. But that day will not see the light if us film critics fail to say what other people want us to say. It is with a heavy heart that I admit to being one of those critics, and all I can ask is for your forgiveness.” Ms. Manning now works at local paperclip factory Ampersand And More.
Meanwhile, Flicks’ own film critic Dominic Corry received public accolades for his correct review of the film, stating that Batman vs. Superman “provides some pretty cool moments.” A nationwide ticker tape parade will be held in his honour later this afternoon.
