Loki: Season 2 (October 6)

Is Thor’s pesky, oft-killed-off brother Loki still an anti-hero at this point, or just a full-fledged good guy? Season two of his own stand-alone Marvel series sees him still caught in a morass of time and space shenanigans, but hopefully returning co-star Owen Wilson and Oscar-winning fresh face Ke Huy Quan can lend the trickster god a hand. With the MCU timeline more confused than ever after the events of season one, season two will hopefully dare to twist itself into even more impossible knots.

Goosebumps: Season 1 (October 13)

R.L. Stine’s series of Goosebumps books were a gateway drug for many a spooky kid introducing themselves to the horror genre (slowly putting my own hand up in the air). Disney has aged up the cast and demographic a tad here, with this new adaptation following teens haunted by the crimes of their parents’ generation. Expect some haunted masks, creepy ventriloquist dummies…but probably not any mention of my fave storylines of evil eggs and possessed green ooze.

Coco Reo Māori (October 30)

If you’ve never seen Disney’s Coco, first things first: you’ll need some tissues on hand. If you have seen Coco, you’ve never seen it like this: dubbed into Aotearoa’s Te Reo Māori dialect. Despite the movie’s original context, of the Mexican celebration of late loved ones through the Day (and Land!) of the Dead, the film will have potent cultural power for anyone seeking connection with their own ancestry. It’s even an ideal watch during the spooky season, for its vibrant vision of the afterlife and grief.
